Meander Valley Council

Meander Valley is nestled at the base of the Great Western Tier’s rugged escarpment, gateway to the Central Highlands and Tasmania’s World heritage Area. It’s an anglers paradise with pristine trout fisheries only minutes from Launceston, Including: Huntsman Lake, Meander River, Brushy Lagoon and Four Springs Lake. these waters offer good shores for wading and easy boat access, and are sheltered locations with lower elevations offering accessible alternatives to the highland lakes.

The Council is the proud host of the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships in the township of Deloraine, on the banks of the Meander River. Through this event, the council plans to promote the region’s tourism attractions and showcase its boutique production of speciality food and wine. Fishing venues to be used for both practice and competition in the Championships will include waters within the Great Western Tiers.
